Nettie Geneva McCarley, widow of James Clifton McCarley, passed away on the morning of February 18, 2014, in Memphis, Tennessee.
Geneva was a Christian woman, living by the highest standards of her faith. She and JC were Baptists.
She was born on March 23, 1933. She was 80 years old at the time of her passing.
Geneva was very active for many years in the coed groups associated with Freemasonry.
She was a Past Grand Royal Matron of the Tennessee Order of the Amaranth, Past Worthy Matron of Oakville Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Past Worthy Matron of Faith Court of the Order of the Amaranth, a member of the Ladies Auxilary of Zaman Grotto, Past Queen of the Daughters of the Nile (women’s auxilary of the Shrine), and had served as an officer in many other groups.
Geneva and JC were married for over 50 years. JC passed away on December 3, 2011, at the age of 80, the same milestone the Geneva reached. They traveled far & well together.
She is survived by her sister Ann Stanford of Fulton, MS; her children James Michael McCarley and Vickie Lynn Carter, 2 grandchildren & 5 great-grandchildren.
Geneva was laid to rest on Monday, February 24, 2014, at Forest Hill East Funeral home after a service conducted by Rev. Donald Edgar Brooks, an Episcopal priest who has known the McCarley family for over 40 years. His service focused on Proverbs 31 and included many comments about Geneva’s praise-worth qualities.
All those who knew her will miss her. She will be long-remembered.
